The Softball “Select” Program provides an opportunity for advanced players to both participate in a more competitive level of play and to further enhance their softball skills. Select recognizes players who have excelled as evidenced by their game performance, softball skills, positive attitude, and overall sportsmanship. Select Teams will be chosen based on performance during evaluations, as well as intangibles including effort, sportsmanship, and coachability.
Per USA Softball rules, Select can only convene once a week for either practice or friendly/tournament play. Select participation is in addition to regular team participation and will not conflict with the regular season.
The cost of Select is not sponsored by the league and will require a participation fee. Select will also require some travel to neighboring fields. The LA/South Bay Select tournament is scheduled for Sunday, March 16th and Sunday, March 23rd. The program will end no later than April 6, 2025.
A player is ineligible for Select if she has participated in any Travel activity (including but not limited to tryout, practices, and games) on or after January 1, 2025.
The objective of the Select Program is to field competitive teams. Positions and playing time will be determined by the Manager and based upon performance, effectiveness, and effort level.
Players who participate on Select Teams are not guaranteed selection onto their respective All-Star teams or future Select teams.
SPRING:
In the spring, players who participate on a select team, must also play on a recreational team and make 75% of their games/practices for rec.
Teams are only allowed to meet for practices or games 1 day per week.
FALL aka Fall Stars:
In fall, select teams are formed just as they are during spring. Players must play on a rec team to be eligible for select.
Select teams with SPGSA practice or play 1 day per week.
Game times/days/locations are determined by the manager of the team.
